Success: Louie Gets to Stay Home!
23/11/25
15,500 Zazim activists took action and together, we succeeded in getting the Ministry of Interior to tell the court it will reevaluate the deportation of 17-year-old Louie, her sister, Amber, and their family!
Here’s what 17-year-old Louie wanted to say to the Zazim community:
“A huge thank you to everyone who supported, signed, and helped. Because of you, my deportation was canceled. Thank you for standing with me. You gave my family and me a chance to stay in Israel, our home.”
Louie and her 13-year-old sister, Amber, were born in Israel. Their parents came from the Philippines as professional caretakers for the elderly. After the woman Louie’s mother had cared for devotedly for many years passed away, the Ministry of Interior decided to deport the family.
Louie’s friends launched a petition on the “Zazim in the Community” platform, and together we gathered 15,500 signatures and broad support. More than 200 people joined demonstrations to back the legal fight led by lawyers Tomer Warsha and Assaf Weitzen, creating public pressure and media attention.
As with other campaigns against the deportation of children and youth from Israel, this time as well, we succeeded! We showed just how important solidarity, persistence, and the support of our community really are.
However, the family’s legal status is not yet guaranteed. The Ministry of Interior needs to know that we will not stop until the threat of deportation is permanently removed.
