Special Webinar: How Can We Prevent Further Suffering and Advance Peace?

On Thursday, October 30th, Europe Calling hosted a special webinar dedicated to an in-depth discussion on how to advance peace and justice in our region during this challenging moment.

Our Executive Director, Raluca Ganea, participated alongside Philip Holzapfel, a fellow at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) and one of the initiators of the Beyond Staatsraison policy initiative, and Karim Abu Al Roos, a Palestinian researcher and writer based in Belgium who focuses on Middle Eastern politics.

The conversation examined the difficult reality that has emerged after the hopes raised by the 20-point peace plan quickly faded. The ceasefire envisioned in the plan did not hold, humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip have again been suspended, and violence in the West Bank continues to escalate. At the same time, civic space for activists and organizations in both Israel and the Palestinian Authority is shrinking, limiting the ability of civil society to influence public debate.

Against this backdrop — and in light of the shifting political mood across the EU and beyond — the webinar sought to address urgent questions:

Despite the complexity of the situation, the speakers emphasized their belief that only a broad, serious, and courageous political initiative can lead to a future of life, security, and freedom for all sides.
