Fulfilling Awdah Hathaleen’s Dream

17/08/25

On August 15, 2025, dozens of Zazim members visited the village of Umm al-Khair in the South Hebron Hills to offer condolences to the family of peace activist Awdah Hathaleen, who had been murdered two weeks earlier by a settler.

Thanks to the activists who came, and the hundreds of others who contributed, we helped the community fulfill Awdah’s dream: during our visit, the summer camp for the children of Umm al-Khair, who live under the constant threat of expulsion and settler violence, finally began.

We came to Umm al-Khair to offer our condolences to Awdah’s family and to bring comfort and light amid the darkness. His relatives asked us to counter the false narrative spread by the settlers and to tell the world who Awdah Hathaleen truly was: a beloved English teacher, a man of peace, and a leading activist in the struggle against the expulsion of Masafer Yatta’s communities.
