We demanded that the PIID stop the violence

06/09/20

During the protests, Chief Superintendent Niso Guetta attacked and punched protesters, yet for some reason the police allowed him to return to the site of the demonstrations. Some 6,000 members of Zazim joined the call demanding the police and the PIID fire Guetta from his position and restrict him from getting near the Balfour compound, as well as demanding an end to police brutality.

After we sent an email with the signatures to the PIID and received a dodgy response, we showed up directly outside the PIID offices to hand in the signatures in person with the hope of receiving a candid response. So that they could not ignore the issue of police brutality while continuing to cover up for violence of their members, we hung posters outside their offices, showing the faces of victims of police brutality. These posters were printed and put up thanks to small donations of about 300 activists that are committed to the struggle against police brutality. Thank you!

Over the past few months, our community members joined a campaign headed by “Free Jerusalem” activists on the Zazim website, demanding the police publish the footage from the killing of Iyad Al-Khalek and indict the police officers who shot him. Over 5,000 members joined this campaign. In addition, our staff members joined a protest organized by “Tag Meir” marking 3 months since the killing of Iyad Al-Khalek in the old city of Jerusalem. Thanks to all of your contributions we produced a poster with the names of the signatories that was given as an act of solidarity to Iyad’s family.
