Our Appeal to President Herzog: Do Not Pardon Jewish Terrorists!

21/10/25

President Isaac Herzog is considering granting clemency or reducing the sentence of convicted murderer Ami Popper and several other Jewish terrorists, as a “gesture of reconciliation and balance” toward the right following the hostage deal.

As Israeli citizens, we are ashamed and horrified by this idea. Israel agreed to release Palestinian prisoners as part of an agreement whose sole purpose was to bring the hostages home. This has nothing whatsoever to do with Jewish terrorists. They are not captives to be redeemed — but criminals and murderers who must serve their full sentences.

The terrorist Ami Popper carried out a massacre that took the lives of seven innocent civilians, on their way to work. Both the Shin Bet and the State Attorney’s Office opposed his release, recognizing that leniency toward him would inspire similar crimes. This warning rings even louder today, as settler violence against innocent Palestinians has become a routine occurrence.

This is why we have appealed to President Herzog to reject this horrific proposal. The release of Jewish terrorists does not “balance” the release of Palestinian prisoners — it is an injustice that would disgrace the presidency and the moral fabric of Israeli society.

Nearly 2,000 Israelis have signed our call urging the President not to give in to pressure and to refuse any pardon or early release for Ami Popper and other Jewish terrorists. The President has received our petition, and we will update the public as soon as we receive his response, or any further developments.
