Zazim opposes the war with Iran
01/03/26
On Saturday morning we woke up to sirens warning us from missile attacks. We soon found out that it is Israel, together with the US that initiated the attack on Iran. The Iranian response was quick to follow and all across the country millions spent the day in shelter. Same in Iran, where school girls were killed that very day in a horrifying attack.
The Zazim team and community join in mourning the families of those killed in the war, and pray for the recovery of the wounded and the rebuilding of homes that have been destroyed. Our own office was also destroyed by a missile strike on Saturday night.o one was hurt, and we continue to e-meet from home while yearning for a swift end to the war.
Wars are easy to launch, but they should be a last resort, and their purpose must be well thought in advance. Every war comes with promises of being the last one, after which ultimate victory and peace will follow — and yet after each one, preparations for the next war begin immediately.
This time too, we fear this war will not bring us the security we want, or the freedom from oppression and murder that the Iranian people long for and deserve.
In recent years we in Israel have also learned that against the backdrop of military operations, anti-democratic initiatives flourish, laws advancing the judicial overhaul pass, and the oppression of the Palestinian people and Israeli annexation policy intensify. This is also part of the heavy price of this war.
For a long time now, wars and military operations have become Israel's only policy tool, and our existence as civilians has only become more precarious and dangerous. Therefore we do not share the euphoria in the Israeli government — and, regrettably, in significant parts of the opposition — but rather deeply concerned.
Furthermore, despite all the investment in military technology, and despite the new reality of forever wars, the home front remains abandoned, and the most vulnerable — Arab and ultra-Orthodox citizens, and the weakest residents living in aging apartments — remain without protection. Our security is not the goal of this war or of the Israeli government. We deserve better — a policy that puts people at its heart.
Only peace agreements will bring Israel security. Only democracy will bring prosperity
and stability. The reality of recent years is not a decree of fate, but the result of the cynical and reckless policies of an extremist and messianic government. We demand a new path, and expect the opposition to offer a genuine alternative to the cycle of violence and war.
